A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 521

Herbert's car was long gone before Fairfax finally moved. He didn't advance, instead turning and getting into his own car.

Gabriel was waiting inside. Lately, everyone at Yelchin Group seemed drained, even the ever-capable Gabriel.

Fairfax didn't tell him to drive. He just lit a cigarette and smoked in silence. He wasn't even sure why he'd come to the biotech company after learning Starla was here. Looking back, it was just self-inflicted misery.

He wanted a divorce so badly now… But seeing her get into Herbert's car, he felt a hollow ache in his chest, as if a part of him had been carved out.

"When a woman's heart turns, she can be unbelievably ruthless," Fairfax sighed.

Gabriel remained silent, unsure how to respond to that. Instead, he shifted the topic. "Did you two have another fight over Brinley?"

Gabriel had been by Fairfax's side long enough to know his habit of blaming Starla whenever something went wrong. He assumed the recent drama with Brinley and Felix had led Fairfax to lash out at her again.

When Fairfax didn't answer, Gabriel pressed on. "Did Brinley claim Starla was somehow involved with what happened between her and Felix?"

From Gabriel's perspective, antagonizing Starla over these matters was pointless and detrimental for Fairfax. Brinley, Darleen, and Xenia were all trapped, their fates firmly in Starla's hands. Brinley, especially, would be suicidal to try and frame Starla now. Her very livelihood depended on Starla's mercy, and stirring up trouble would only make her life at the manor more unbearable.

The reminder only deepened Fairfax's frustration. He took two harsh drags from his cigarette.

Seeing his continued silence, Gabriel knew he'd guessed correctly. He let out a soft sigh. "You must have a clearer picture of the situation by now, sir. You were wrong about her before."
