A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 455

Brinley was already suffocating with frustration, and Felix’s cautious words only made her feel more cornered.

"Then what do you want me to do? The hospital just called. They said the baby’s condition is not good."

"You need to tell the Yelchins," Felix instructed. "Right now, our son is legally Faraday Yelchin's."

Brinley fumed. Tell the Yelchins? She had just told Darleen, and what was her attitude? When the family was thriving, Darleen had treated her wonderfully. But now that things were falling apart, it was painfully clear where her priorities lay: her daughter came before her grandson.

"Alright, darling, focus on finding a way to get our son treated," Felix’s voice softened slightly. "We can't let anything happen to him, understand?"

Brinley didn't respond. She was completely trapped by Starla. She hadn't eaten a thing since noon, and now the hospital was calling with bad news, and Starla's reaction had been ice-cold. Felix was telling her to find a way, but she was out of ideas. She wanted to complain more, but Felix had already hung up.

The dial tone buzzed in her ear, and Brinley felt a surge of anger so intense she wanted to smash the phone. She tried calling Fairfax, but his phone was off. Left with no other choice, she dialed Gabriel's number.

"Hello?" he answered professionally.

"Why isn't Fairfax answering his phone?"

Gabriel froze. ‘Fairfax.’ Ever since Faraday’s death, Brinley had never once called him by his real name. It was always "Faraday," both in person and on the phone. But now she was asking for Fairfax. Did that mean she knew all along? Had she never truly mistaken him?

Gabriel took a deep breath. "He broke his phone. The new one hasn't arrived yet."

He probably didn't realize the irony. For the past six months, Starla had been furious every time he left Petal Villa for Brinley. She would call him constantly after he arrived at the family estate, and in his annoyance, he would often ignore her calls. Now, he was just as annoyed, but he was taking Brinley's call.

He put the phone to his ear, his voice cold. "What is it?"

"Faraday…" Brinley’s voice came through, soft and pitiful.

Gabriel, who hadn't left the room yet, felt his skin crawl. Just moments ago, on the phone with him, she had been perfectly lucid, asking for Fairfax. Now, speaking to Fairfax, she was calling him Faraday again.

Fairfax’s scowl deepened. "Haven't you been thinking clearly lately?"
