A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 452

Brinley didn't have depression, but he was certainly starting to.

Gabriel entered with a grim expression, carrying a folder. The sight of his face alone was enough to annoy Fairfax.

"More trouble?" he asked wearily.

Morale at the Yelchin Group was at an all-time low, with rumors of impending bankruptcy swirling through the halls. A look like the one on Gabriel’s face never meant good news.

Gabriel sighed heavily. "It's Hoggart Group again."

"Again?" Fairfax repeated, his eyes darkening. He took a long, hard drag from his cigarette.

They had already been pulling all-nighters for days because of it, and every department was simmering with resentment.

"A vice president from Hoggart Group is coming to Marina City," Gabriel continued.

"Who?" The mention of a Hoggart executive immediately sharpened Fairfax's focus.

"Kael."

The name conjured an image of a strikingly handsome, almost ethereal face. Kael had trained as a dancer, yet he possessed a brilliant mind for business. The Hoggart Group had discovered him by chance, and he had been with them ever since. Though he was in his early fifties, he wore his age well, a testament to the idea that time couldn't tarnish true beauty. A man that beautiful… Fairfax's eyes narrowed.

In Gabriel's view, Starla would sooner choose Herbert than Kael. Besides, the Hoggart Group was already targeting them aggressively. If his boss did something reckless to Kael, it would only provoke them further. He was deeply worried.

"Oh, she wouldn't? There's a lot she's capable of!" Fairfax scoffed.

Thinking about Starla's recent outings with Herbert, and then connecting it to Hoggart Group’s attacks on the Yelchin Group, it all seemed to fit. Herbert must have sold her to one of Hoggart Group's executives, and now Kael was conveniently showing up in Marina City.

Fairfax squeezed his eyes shut. "Herbert, you've really outdone yourself."

Without Herbert, it would have been impossible for Starla to connect with anyone at Hoggart Group. But with him, everything was different. Herbert had always had some dealings with them.
