A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 358

“He can't possibly think we enjoy taking Starla’s things!” Xenia fumed, assuming Fairfax had refused. “If the Yelchins had any other properties left, you couldn’t pay me to go to Luwood Mountain!”

Brinley’s face fell. She had thought Darleen's suggestion meant she could finally escape Starla. But this useless old woman couldn't even manage that after making promises.

Brinley lowered her gaze, pretending to wipe away a tear. “The Seabrook estate is in ruins because of her, and my mother hasn’t even said a word. I guess I’ll just have to forget about my postpartum recovery.”

“Luwood Mountain estate is gone!” Darleen finally blurted out.

She couldn't stand Brinley’s constant crying. She knew she was probably just trying not to make things harder, but Darleen was already at her wit’s end. To be so thoroughly dominated by her daughter-in-law was a joke. And now Brinley’s whining was the last straw.

Darleen’s words hung in the air, instantly silencing the room. Xenia and Brinley stared at her, unable to process what they had just heard.

“Mom, what did you say?” Xenia was the first to speak.

Luwood Mountain… gone? Had Starla…? That monster!

The realization almost made Xenia faint from sheer rage.

Brinley’s expression darkened. “Luwood Mountain was burned down too?”

Luwood Mountain... Even the land it was on had been highly sought after. And now Starla had burned it to the ground?

“Yes,” Darleen confirmed, her voice heavy. “She’s even destroyed our only escape route.”
