A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 346

And now she was sitting here, taking credit in front of Fairfax, claiming she brought people back to serve them. The shameless lies just rolled off her tongue.

Starla turned to Fairfax. “Did you hear that?”

The sudden shift in focus made Darleen’s heart plummet. What was she trying to do?

Fairfax’s gaze swept over Darleen and Xenia, his eyes devoid of warmth, lingering for a moment on Brinley with the same cold indifference.

“You… you’re just twisting words!” Darleen stammered. “Fairfax, don’t listen to her nonsense! She wasn’t like this when you weren’t here!”

She was putting on an act. When had this woman learned to act so innocent? She used to be too proud for such games, always blunt even when explaining things to Fairfax. Now, her performance made it seem like they were the ones who had wronged her.

“All those properties the family lost today—it was all her doing! I’m telling you, I won’t let this go!” Darleen declared, her voice filled with anguish.

The thought of those beautiful houses, all in prime locations, all luxury villas worth millions, now gone… It was too much to bear. In a single day, a significant portion of the Yelchin family’s real estate empire had vanished, leaving only the main estate. If Starla was allowed to stay, Darleen was terrified they’d be burned in their beds.

“Everything seems to be my fault, doesn’t it?” Starla said with a sigh, then turned her gaze back to Fairfax. “They say I burned them. What do you think?”

Their eyes locked. Starla had masterfully thrown the problem squarely at Fairfax.

He was so naive, wasn't he? So quick to believe others, especially Brinley. Anything Brinley said, Fairfax would accept without question. So, what about now? Would he believe them this time?
