A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 337

This time, it wasn't just the takeout. They rifled through Darleen's and Xenia's handbags, turning them inside out.

Darleen, who had managed to compose herself while she was out, was now on the verge of fainting from rage. “Starla, you’ve gone too far! This is my home! Am I supposed to go through a security check every time I return?”

“It is your home, that’s true,” Starla said with a light smile. “But you have a prior record with me. I have to be careful, don’t I?”

The words ‘prior record’ were delivered with such casual amusement that Darleen and Xenia’s faces turned a ghastly shade of white and green.

Soon, the takeout was brought back from the kitchen and handed to Xenia.

“You’ve already touched it! How can anyone eat this now?” Xenia protested.

“Eat it or don’t,” Starla replied dismissively.

The casual cruelty of her words made both Darleen and Xenia feel dizzy with anger.

“Brinley is still recovering from childbirth! What you’re doing is just plain evil!” Darleen cried out, feeling her strength wane.

Starla didn't even bother to respond.

Darleen felt that if this continued, the stress would give her a stroke. She didn’t know if she had a heart condition, but every time she got angry like this, her chest tightened painfully. She waved a dismissive hand at Xenia. “Just take it up to Brinley.”

They didn’t know if Starla had actually done anything to the food, but Brinley hadn’t eaten all day.

Xenia went upstairs. Darleen took a few moments to catch her breath. Just as she was about to head up, her phone rang. She answered it curtly. “Speak.”

“Ma’am, Gemfield Manor is on fire!”

“What?” Darleen was shocked. “What happened? How could it just catch on fire?”
