A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 292

He was more inclined to believe Herbert was protecting her.

“Yes, sir. There’s been no news at all.”

Fairfax hung up, the car roaring out of the gate and speeding down the road. The in-car Bluetooth dialed Starla’s number, but in his agitated state, he seemed to have forgotten she had blocked him long ago.

When Starla arrived at the hospital, Camilla was waiting downstairs. Seeing her get out of the car, Camilla rushed over. “Starla.”

“Camilla.”

“Dolores is not doing well. She’s been asking to see you.”

A heavy feeling settled in Starla’s chest. “Why did she have such a strong reaction to me marrying Fairfax?” she asked. Camilla had mentioned on the phone that Dolores had become agitated as soon as she heard the news.

Camilla shook her head. “I don’t know the specifics. She said she would only tell you.”

Starla’s unease grew. It felt as if her marriage to Fairfax was more than just a failure; it was some kind of monumental mistake.

Garret followed a few steps behind Starla. After she and Camilla went into the hospital room, he made a call.

“We can make our move in Marina City,” he said, his voice cold. “Let’s start with Darleen.”

Yardley had already informed him: anyone who had caused Starla significant pain would not be spared.

“Understood, Mr. Garret.”
