A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 287

A woman about to be imprisoned wouldn’t have the time or resources to cause trouble like before.

Xenia’s spirits lifted. “I don’t know why the investigation is taking so long. Why haven’t they arrested her yet?”

She had assumed that once they filed a police report, Starla would be taken into custody immediately. The lack of action was puzzling. Was Herbert protecting her again?

This time was different. If Starla was truly responsible, not even Herbert could shield her. The thought of him defending Starla made Xenia’s stomach churn with jealousy.

“Be patient,” Darleen said confidently. “She killed the baby. If she doesn’t go to prison, who will? It’s just a matter of time.”

She wasn’t worried. With the child’s death being so recent, there was no way Starla could have destroyed all the evidence. She wouldn't have a chance to sue them for the divorce.

With that thought, Darleen decided against giving Starla the five billion or any of the assets.

“Alright, let’s go check on your sister-in-law,” she said, her tone laced with impatience.

Between Starla’s antics and Brinley’s drama, Darleen was exhausted. She could only hope Harriet would manage to overcome her crisis in Yoran Country. If Harriet fell, it would mean the Yelchin family was truly cursed, saddled with two infuriating daughters-in-law.

As Darleen headed toward Brinley’s room, Brinley herself was on the phone, her voice a hushed whisper, acutely aware of the bodyguards stationed outside her door.

“Destroy all the evidence. Don’t let the police trace anything back to you,” she urged, nervously glancing toward the door. Fairfax had barged in on her twice before, leaving her paranoid.

“Don’t worry, the surveillance footage is gone,” the man on the other end, Felix, replied. He then let out a cold chuckle. “But you… you’re not actually falling for Fairfax, are you?”

“What are you talking about?” Brinley snapped. “You know perfectly well why I’m doing this.”
