A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 279

Caden didn't just think it, he said it out loud. "Honestly, I'd believe Brinley killed her own kid before I'd believe Starla would do something like that."

The words hung in the air. Fairfax’s drunken haze seemed to evaporate, replaced by a sharp, menacing glare directed straight at Caden.

Darian winced. "Hey, you can't just…"

That wasn't the right thing to say. He could defend Starla without pointing fingers at Brinley. In Darian's mind, neither woman was capable of such an act. Brinley wouldn't murder her own child.

"What do you mean, I can't?" Caden shot back, all fired up. "Hasn't Brinley done enough disgusting things over the last six months? I'm telling you, it's entirely possible she killed that baby to frame Starla!"

Darian was sitting right next to Fairfax and could feel the dangerous chill emanating from him. Caden, lost in his rant, was oblivious. Darian shot Caden a frantic, warning look. But Caden was on a roll.

"And it's not just Brinley. I bet that ruthless mother of hers, Harriet, is capable of killing her own granddaughter too."

He was convinced: Brinley and Harriet were prime suspects. Starla was not.

The sinister coldness radiating from Fairfax intensified, and Darian buried his face in his hand. Caden's mouth was a lost cause!

Fairfax's eyes were like daggers fixed on Caden. "What has she done?"
