A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 228

"Bring the baby back, and we'll get a divorce."

For the sake of the child, Fairfax had finally compromised. He couldn't afford to gamble. The past few weeks with the baby boy in the hospital had been emotionally draining for everyone. Newborns were so fragile, and with the boy's survival still uncertain, he couldn't risk losing the healthy baby girl. She could be his brother's only legacy in this world.

"Are you serious?" Starla asked, a flicker of hope in her eyes. For the baby, he had actually agreed. Unlike his past deceptions, this time she believed he meant it.

Her question only hardened Fairfax's expression. "You really did take her?" he asked, his voice cold. Her reaction was as good as a confession.

Starla didn't care what he thought anymore. After all the mud the Yelchins had slung at her over the last six months, what was one more false accusation?

"Is it a deal or not?" she pressed, her gaze locked on his.

Fairfax's breath hitched. So it really was her. He stared at her, his eyes turning a furious red.

"Is it?" she repeated, her voice firm.

"Yes, as you wish," he bit out, each word forced from between clenched teeth. "Now can you have someone bring the child back?"

She truly was something else. To get a divorce, she was capable of doing something so monstrous to a newborn. At that moment, Fairfax looked at Starla with a profound sense of disappointment, as if he was seeing her true, ugly self for the very first time.

Before she could reply, he spoke again. "You're more vicious than I ever imagined."

Starla just stared at him. Vicious? The Yelchins had done so much, yet she was the one branded as vicious. Was Fairfax just that blind, or was his family that manipulative?

It didn't matter. None of it mattered anymore. She would gladly wear the label of a villain if it meant she could finally be free of him.
