A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 206

"Be quiet!" Darleen shouted, silencing Xenia instantly.

Xenia was bewildered. What was happening? Her mother had always been so kind to Brinley. What had caused this sudden change in attitude?

"Is it wrong for me to want my husband back?" Brinley’s voice cracked.

There was nothing Xenia could say to that.

"Is it wrong for me to want my son to live and my husband to be by my side?" Brinley continued, her voice rising with desperation.

"No, no, of course not. Please, just calm down," Xenia pleaded, mindful of Brinley's fragile mental state.

"Mom, what are you doing?" Xenia interrupted, aghast.

Wasn't she the one who had repeatedly warned them not to provoke Brinley because of her depression? She had insisted that they had to go along with whatever Brinley said, that agitating her would only make things worse. She had laid down the rules, and now she was the one breaking them with the most force.

Brinley dissolved into breathless sobs. "Xenia, please call your brother. Tell him to come back. The baby and I need him."
