The atmosphere in the hospital was heavy. The baby’s condition was critical, and upon arrival, they saw Brinley, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
Everyone was stunned when Fairfax walked in with Starla.
Xenia knew Herbert himself had taken Starla the day before and had been trying to find out where she was hidden, planning to confront her personally. Yet here she was, back with Fairfax.
Xenia’s eyes darkened. So, she’d returned to Fairfax’s side? Wasn’t she the one who had been so insistent on a divorce? What was this now?
Darleen was equally surprised, and even more furious. “Why did you bring her here again?” she snapped.
Still seething from her humiliation at Farley Group earlier that day, Xenia’s hatred for Starla intensified.
Starla stood with her hands casually tucked into her trench coat pockets. Under Darleen’s glare, she glanced nonchalantly at Fairfax and chuckled. “Your mother asked you a question. Why did you bring me?”
Her light laughter was jarring in the somber environment.
Fairfax shot her a warning look. “Shut up.”
Starla just scoffed, then turned to Darleen. “Since your son won’t answer you, I will. He dragged me here against my will. It’s not like I was eager to come.”
