A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 158

Starla looked up. Herbert?

Herbert walked over to the driver's side window. "I'm here for Starla."

"Mr. Farley, you've come to pick up Ms. Lansbury yourself?" The officer's voice was tight with anxiety.

The group of them exchanged nervous glances. Just who was this Ms. Lansbury? Their chief had received a call from someone at the very top, and he had just spent five minutes screaming at them over the phone. They had been told she was just an orphan. On the way over, they'd been thinking she was done for, a pawn in the Yelchin family's games.

But now… a mysterious, powerful backer and Herbert Farley himself coming to her rescue.

They quickly scrambled out of the car and opened the rear door for Starla with the utmost respect. The lead officer bowed his head. "Ms. Lansbury, we are terribly sorry for this misunderstanding."

Starla exited the vehicle without a word and walked toward Herbert.

"Are you hurt?"

He looked her over from head to toe, and seeing she was unharmed, he let out a quiet breath of relief. When he'd heard that Xenia had taken the police to Luwood Mountain, Herbert had rushed over immediately, fearing that Starla's volatile temper would lead to a confrontation where she would inevitably be the one to get hurt.

"I'm fine," she said, shaking her head.

"Let's go."

She nodded and got into his car. As Herbert was about to walk around to the driver's side, the lead officer called out to him anxiously.

"Mr. Farley, about today's incident…" He trailed off, but his meaning was clear.

"Don't worry," Herbert said, understanding. "I'll speak to him."
