The moment Starla got into the car, Yardley's name flashed across her phone screen. She ignored it.
Seconds later, Luce's phone rang.
"Give the phone to Starla," Yardley demanded.
"Sir, Miss Starla doesn't wish to speak with you," Luce replied calmly.
"I just need two words with her!"
"But she doesn't want to hear a single one."
Hearing Luce's unwavering defense, a satisfied smile touched Starla's lips.
On the other end of the line, Yardley was practically vibrating with rage. This was unbelievable. She was treating his calls like spam, completely ignoring his existence under his own roof. This wasn't just her being mad about the past—she was actively erasing him from her life.
His chest heaved. "Give. Her. The. Phone."
"Apologies, sir, but—"
"It's fine, give it to me," Starla interrupted, holding her hand out. She was mildly curious why he was so desperate to reach her while his fiancée was sitting in his study.
Elmer had picked well; Luce was a fantastic bodyguard. Knowing she had a buffer against Yardley's overbearing nature was a relief.
Taking the phone, Starla brought it to her ear. "What do you want?"
"Are you seriously cutting me off? Disowning me as your brother?"
"Yes."
