There were many things Fairfax hadn't known before this. Now, everything was exploding at once. He wasn't a patient man to begin with, and the actions of his mother and sister had finally set him off.
Over the phone, Darleen sounded like she was about to have an aneurysm. "You... you ungrateful brat!"
"When I find her, I'll ask her what she wants to burn next, and I'll light the match myself! Burn it all down!" he raged. "Everything you took from her, let it all turn to ash."
Fairfax had completely lost control. This time, before he could hang up, Darleen slammed the phone down on her end. It was madness. Everything was spiraling out of control.
Witnessing the explosive argument between Fairfax and his mother, Caden, who had just been advising Fairfax to get a divorce, fell silent. At least Fairfax was still fiercely protective of Starla. Maybe their marriage wasn't completely over after all. But then again, Starla seemed dead set on divorce. That much was clear to everyone.
Fairfax lit a cigarette. "Caden, call her."
He knew Caden and Starla were on good terms. Previously, Fairfax had been uncomfortable with their closeness, feeling Caden lacked boundaries. But now, with Herbert in the picture, it was more bearable.
Caden hesitated. "But... she won't tell me where she is."
"Call her!" Fairfax snapped, in no mood for excuses.
Caden sighed internally. Was this really the way to ask for a favor?
Under Fairfax's intense gaze, Caden finally made the call. Fairfax was right; Starla picked up for him.
"What is it?"
"Petal Villa is a wreck. Where are you now?" he asked cautiously.
There was a brief pause on the line. "Is Fairfax with you?" Starla asked.
