Did he hate Starla?
Yes, she was entirely infuriating. But in Fairfax's eyes, the person he hated the most... was himself.
"I really have nothing left to say to you," Susanna said.
Without waiting for his response, she disconnected the call.
Listening to the dial tone, Fairfax felt his head pounding as if it were about to split open.
Susanna had completely lost her mind.
Even over the phone, he could clearly hear the unhinged edge to her voice. Because she rarely visited home, Fairfax had completely underestimated just how hard the family's destruction would hit her, or that it would provoke such an extreme reaction.
Thad walked back in. "Sir, these still need your signature."
Fairfax pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to fend off a massive migraine. Seeing him unresponsive, Thad respectfully placed the folders on the desk and turned to leave.
Before he reached the door, Fairfax spoke up. "Book me a flight to Maxlandia."
Thad paused in surprise. "Sir, you're blacklisted from entering Maxlandia right now. Have you forgotten?"
When Yardley had tossed Fairfax back to Marina City, he had also completely sealed off any legal avenues for him to return.
"Then find another way," Fairfax demanded through gritted teeth.
He couldn't leave Susanna by Yardley's side any longer. Yardley was a complete psychopath, and Susanna's current behavior was basically a death wish.
He had to go bring her back.
Even if she was currently someone special in Yardley's eyes, Yardley was far too dangerous. The man had proven he would throw away his own biological sister if it suited his interests!
And then there was Herbert...
Fairfax had seen exactly how Herbert looked at Starla. The man wouldn't hesitate to slaughter Susanna if she posed a threat to Starla's safety.
Thad nodded sharply. "I'll figure something out right away."
