A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1141

Even though her heart was no longer in it, Starla Lansbury still understood Herbert Farley to some extent. Back at the restaurant, just by the way he had looked at Tanya Mercer, she could practically guess what was running through his mind.

Returning to the wooden chalet, Herbert reached over to lift her out of the car.

Starla met his gaze. "Actually, I don't mind burning it all down. The peace I wanted is already gone anyway."

The peace she had yearned for was a life completely free of all these people. Now, with him still here, this wasn't the kind of sanctuary she had envisioned.

Her meaning was crystal clear. If anything happened to Tanya here in Smaro Town, she wouldn't hesitate to let the entire world know that both she and Herbert were still alive.

He was using the situation to threaten her. And now, she was throwing the exact same threat right back in his face.

Herbert's breath caught. He reached out and gently squeezed her hand. "You know I don't like being threatened."

"No one does. Neither do I."

Who would actually enjoy something like that? But he also knew she despised it, yet hadn't he just done the exact same thing to her?

He fell silent.

"Remember," Starla warned, locking eyes with him. "Don't touch Tanya."

"I won't lay a finger on her. But if she gets herself into trouble, you can't blame me."

"No, I will blame you."

She said the words with absolute conviction.

Herbert was speechless. Meeting her gaze, he saw a flicker of deep dissatisfaction in her eyes.
