Darian had been too consumed with hunting down Tanya to analyze the past.

"Think about it," Fairfax pressed. "Every time Yulisa 'talked' to Tanya, didn't Tanya's outbursts get worse?"
Darian's heart skipped a beat.

Just like Brinley did. Darian had never noticed it before. Whenever Yulisa—the ultimate tomboy—clashed with Tanya, she would suddenly become teary-eyed in front of him. She would subtly defend Tanya, framing the situation in a way that made Tanya look unhinged.
Darian inhaled sharply. "Is she really capable of that?"
