A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1098

For the past half-month, Amos hadn't offered a single word of comfort—mostly because there was nothing he could possibly say to fix this.

When Susanna Yelchin walked in.

She found Fairfax sitting empty-eyed on the sofa.

He looked entirely devoid of life. Starla was gone, and it seemed his soul had been ripped out right along with her.

Fairfax wasn't the only one suffering in the Cyrus Sea.

Susanna was practically drowning in her own misery.

Guilt and self-blame swallowed her whole.

"Who exactly is this pathetic performance for?" Amos snapped, completely fed up.

Fairfax didn't flinch.

"When you made the decision to take her, you should have known this was a possible outcome," Amos coldly reminded him.

"You had the choice between her guaranteed safety and total uncertainty, and you chose the uncertainty that got her killed."

Fairfax knew better than anyone that leaving the Cyrus Sea meant diving headfirst into unknown dangers.

Even with General Licht dead, there were still plenty of dangerous people hunting Starla!

Yet, despite knowing all that, Fairfax had dragged her away from the safest place on earth.

He had pushed her right to the edge of the abyss.

He had known the risks better than anyone, so acting like a shattered victim now? It was almost laughable...!

Susanna stepped forward and glanced at Amos.

Noticing her, Amos rolled his eyes. "Fine. You talk some sense into him!"

Because Fairfax's fatal decision had revolved entirely around saving Susanna, Amos couldn't stand the sight of her either.

And he wasn't the only one.

Ever since news of Starla's disappearance broke, Yvonne had completely iced Susanna out too.

Prejudice was a heavy mountain to move!

Even if someone wasn't directly at fault, being the catalyst for a tragedy was enough to make everyone turn against them.

And that was exactly what had happened to Susanna...

Amos walked out.

Leaving Susanna and Fairfax alone in the room, Susanna approached him cautiously, her heart breaking at the sight. "Fairfax."
