"Of course they signed," Fairfax said grimly. "Brinley's name was tied to it."
"I'm on my way to see Brinley now," Gabriel reported.
Fairfax had ordered that everything that originally belonged to Starla, no matter whose name it was under now, be returned to her. Initially, he had intended to wait until after Brinley’s postpartum recovery, but Starla's current attitude made it clear he couldn't afford to wait.
Fairfax closed his eyes for a moment. "Go. And one more thing."
"What is it, sir?"
"She just went down to the parking garage. Send some men to intercept her."
This time, Herbert wasn't getting her away from him.
"I've already stationed men at the hospital. I'll have them go down now."
Fairfax hung up without another word. The moment he did, his phone rang again. It was Darleen. "Hasn't she had enough?" she shrieked. "Xenia and I already signed everything, so why is she going after Brinley's mother now?"
Evidently, Harriet had called Darleen to complain.
"She has the nerve to interfere with Brinley's mother's international business!" Darleen's voice was hysterical. "Tell me, are you helping her, or is Herbert?"
Fairfax simply hung up. He immediately dialed Herbert's number, but the call went straight to voicemail. He tried again, with the same result. Cursing under his breath, he felt a surge of helpless fury. Why the hell was Herbert helping Starla like this?
...
Meanwhile, Harriet was losing her mind. She was already in agony from the beating she'd taken at Petal Villa, and now she had learned that the overseas project she had been so close to securing had fallen through.
