He finally broke!
He appeared in front of Starla.
She was on the phone. Hearing the news on the other end, a cold smirk touched her lips.
When she saw Fairfax walk in, the smirk deepened.
Seeing that smile made Fairfax's heart skip a beat!
"Got it," Starla said into the phone.
Then she hung up!
When their eyes met, the sheer ice in her gaze made Fairfax tremble inwardly.
He sat down opposite her!
He parted his lips to speak, but the words caught in his throat.
Instead, Starla spoke first.
"Well, isn't this a miracle!"
Fairfax stiffened. His unease spiked. Hearing her chilling tone made his heart race faster.
Given the phone call she just took, it had to be news about him or his family, right?
Before he could ask.
She continued, "Xenia was actually released from prison!"
"She's a convicted murderer. She went in with solid evidence against her, and now she's out. Tell me, isn't that hilarious?"
Starla stared at him, her eyes mocking.
Fairfax swallowed hard.
Hearing her bring up Xenia's release, his heart plummeted.
"Are you still not over your anger toward the Yelchin family?"
"Anger? Are you joking right now, Fairfax? Your family, to me, is..."
"I told you, there's more to your mother's death!"
He interrupted her sharply, his voice laced with ice.
He spoke through gritted teeth.
Completely invalidating everything she had done back in Marina City, entirely dismissing her hatred for his family.
"So they shouldn't have to pay the price you think they owe."
He stated, enunciating every word as he met her frosty glare.
Starla fell silent.
