A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1050

Seeing her lack of response, Fairfax tightened his embrace. "You don't believe me?"

"I'm a little hungry," Starla replied, ignoring his question. She hadn't eaten much all morning and was genuinely starving.

"Let's eat, then." Fairfax looked visibly relieved. She had barely touched her food since arriving at Cyrus Sea, so hearing her ask for a meal lifted his spirits.

At the dining table, Fairfax had ordered a massive spread. The table was covered with dishes she supposedly loved back in Marina City.

Starla stared down at the food, a dark, unreadable emotion flickering in her eyes.

"These are all your favorites," Fairfax said warmly. "Try the Ginger Duck. See if it tastes like the one from home." He picked up a piece and placed it in her bowl.

Starla just looked at it. She didn't pick up her silverware.

"What's wrong?" he asked, his tone gentler than it had been in weeks.

"These are your mother's favorites," Starla said flatly. "I never ate any of this at Petal Villa."

Fairfax froze. "What do you mean?"

"This entire table is full of food I was forced to eat at the main estate because I didn't have a choice."

She hated these dishes. But during family dinners, the kitchen only catered to the Yelchins' tastes. She had just picked at whatever was tolerable so she wouldn't starve. Because of that, Fairfax had assumed these were her favorites.

They had been married for years, yet he had absolutely no idea what she actually liked.

Fairfax was stunned into silence. "Then... what do you like? Are none of these your favorites?"
