Back in Cyrus Sea.
As soon as Starla was brought to the estate, she met the woman who had been Yardley's first love—Yvonne.
She was stunning, with cascading golden waves that perfectly framed her face.
Especially when she smiled... Starla could immediately see why Yardley hadn't been able to let her go for so many years, and why Amos had been willing to go to war over her. If Starla were a man, she would have fought to the death for a woman like this too.
"So, you're Yardley's sister?" Yvonne looked Starla up and down. "Thank God you look absolutely nothing like that bastard."
Yvonne didn't hold back her disdain for Yardley, not caring at all that she was talking to his blood relative.
Starla felt a sudden, profound wave of satisfaction.
Normally, people defended their family members. But Yardley was such a ruthless piece of work that Starla couldn't find a single redeeming quality to defend even if she wanted to.
"Alright, gorgeous, let's give them some space," Amos interrupted, wrapping a possessive arm around his wife's waist. "My buddy here just got his woman back and is anxious to be alone with her."
Starla frowned as Amos practically carried Yvonne out of the room.
Once they were gone, the massive living area fell silent. Fairfax was out on the balcony, taking a phone call. His expression was grim.
A few minutes later, he ended the call and walked back inside.
He glanced at Starla, who was sitting stiffly on the sofa. She ignored him, letting him stew in his own dark mood.
She didn't know who had been on the phone, but there were only two things in the world that could make Fairfax look that murderous: something concerning his empire, or something concerning her.
And if it was about both of them, it likely involved Herbert or Yardley.
Since he didn't speak, Starla didn't bother asking.
Finally, Fairfax broke the silence. "Your brother is going to marry Susanna."
