Darian shot his mother a dark look.

"Don't look at me like that," Rowena huffed. "I guarantee you she didn't terminate it."

"You really don't know her at all," Darian laughed bitterly.

Back in Hansville City, Darian had also believed Rowena's theory—that Tanya was just throwing a tantrum and wouldn't actually go through with it. But now... this news came straight from Starla. If Tanya were going to hide the truth from anyone, it wouldn't be her best friend. The news was real. She had actually destroyed their child.

The thought made his heart physically ache.

"What's there to know?" Rowena waved a dismissive hand. "Women like her rely on marriage to upgrade their lives. But regardless, this family will never accept her or that child! If she thinks she can scheme her way into this house, she has another thing coming!"

Whether the baby was alive or not, Rowena was determined to crush any hope Tanya had of joining their family.

"If she was trying to trap me with the baby, then why did she run?" Darian asked quietly.

She had vanished. How could anyone still believe she wanted to marry him?

"She ran because she knows we wouldn't let her keep it!" Rowena shot back.

Darian stayed silent.
