Sierra said, "Maddy, I'll always be by your side too. Don't worry, I'm all grown up now. I won't do anything foolish anymore."
"That's more like it." Madison let go of her and gently smoothened the crease between her brows. "Cee, you're amazing. We need to be confident and brave. All the beautiful things in this world are meant for us, too. After overcoming these hardships, the road ahead will only get smoother."
Sierra nodded firmly.
…
Inside the police station, an officer led Benson inside.
The moment Janet saw him, she immediately stood up from her chair. Her eyes turned red, filled with distress.
"Benson…" She wanted to walk over to him, but Liam grabbed her arm and said firmly, "Benson, apologize to Cayden sincerely and admit your mistake."
Looking at Cayden seated across him, Benson scoffed. "Why should I?"
"You injured him. Isn't that reason enough?" Liam's expression darkened, and his voice was tinged with anger.
"He deserved it! He was eyeing my girlfriend!" Benson muttered, completely unrepentant.
Cayden met his gaze and calmly explained, "First of all, Sierra has already broken up with you. She is not your girlfriend. There's nothing wrong with me liking her or pursuing her—that's her decision to make, not yours. Second, if you don't want to apologize, don't force yourself."
With that, he stood up, ready to leave.
"Wait, Cayden." Janet quickly stepped in to block his path and suddenly became anxious. "Benson has a bit of a temper, but he'll apologize."
"It doesn't matter. The fact is, the damage is done. If you really want to know how Sierra is, do the right thing and apologize sincerely to Cayden. Otherwise, you can stay right where you are because I'm done with you."
Liam turned away and was unwilling to say another word.
"Benson, listen to me. Just apologize, alright? The moment I heard what happened to you, I didn't rest for a whole day and night. Can't you at least think of me?" Janet's voice trembled with emotion, and tears threatened to spill from her eyes.
Benson looked at her pained expression. Then, he thought about Sierra still lying in the hospital. Clenching his fists, he turned to Cayden and lowered his head. "I'm sorry. I lost my temper and hurt you."
Cayden stared at Benson, surprised to see him actually apologizing. He knew all too well how proud Benson was. Even so, he couldn't bring himself to accept it.
But the Gray family was not a family he could afford to offend.
