"It was my oversight for not calling Uncle Theo, Mom," Benson said hurriedly. He was worried that Theo might blab about what happened at the hotel that day if Janet pissed Theo off.
He looked at Theo and gave the latter a pleading look. "I'm getting ready to marry Cee before New Year. I hope you will give us your blessing."
"I won't," Theo responded icily in a deep voice, causing Benson's expression to change immediately.
Janet immediately got upset and said angrily, "Listen to what Theo said, Dad. His nephew is getting married, and yet he doesn't want to give them his blessing!"
Edward frowned, feeling confused. Theo had always been mature, reliable, and sensible. He would never act this impulsively.
So, he suggested, "Benson might've made a mistake when he didn't give you a call, Theo, but you should give them your blessing."
Theo wore a cold expression as he snickered. "A blessing would've been pointless. They're broken up."
At the next moment, everyone was utterly shocked. Benson's expression grew terrible, and his grip on the ring box immediately tightened.
Edward's face darkened as he looked at Benson. "What happened?"
Fighting to keep calm, Benson responded, "Uncle Theo misinterpreted the situation, Grandpa. Cee and I weren't broken up. We merely had a spat over a misunderstanding, but it was resolved.
"You can ask Cee if you don't believe in me. We have patched things up."
Edward rested his gaze on Sierra, and his voice grew warmer. "Tell me, Cee. Did you and Benson break up?"
"They are a lovely couple, Mr. Gray Senior. More to the point, it's normal for the young folks to have a spat. Perhaps Mr. Gray got it wrong." William chuckled.
Edward didn't even bat an eye at William. He said in a deep voice, "Your words are the only one that matters to me, Cee."
"Stop it, Mom. Cee and I are fine." Benson immediately frowned when he saw Janet butting in and making a mess of things.
She was annoyed at him and the person he had become, questioning, "How are you still not seeing Sierra for who she really is? It's no wonder Theo wouldn't let you guys get married. He must've found out her dirty secrets.
"Didn't she say she went out to play piano? Perhaps she went out there to seduce men left and right instead."
"That's nonsense, Janet. My daughter is a decent lady. She's not what you make her out to be." Vera had been keeping quiet the whole time, but she suddenly chimed in.
At the next moment, William glared at her, forcing her to lower her head again.
"She has the look of a homewrecker. Just one look is enough to tell me that she's been sleeping around," Janet added sarcastically.
Sierra's gaze grew icy, and her anger was barely suppressed when she retorted, "I'd appreciate it if you stop slandering me, Mrs. Gray. I'm not the reason we're broken up."
