Chapter 244
Being with someone younger really does make you feel youthful. Sage was laughing a lot on her way home. As she stepped into the Rosa Garden, she felt her steps becoming lighter.
It was getting late, most helpers aside from the night shifters had already gone to bed. The walls are thin in the house, Sage took off her heels and walked bare feet up the stairs.
A tiny figure was seen sitting in front of her room as she got up the stairs. Yeva had already moved out today, it was Leah. Why did Leah fall asleep in that spot though? “Leah.”
Sage walked towards her and patted lightly on her shoulder. Leah picked her head up from her folded arms and looked at Sage. Dazed, she asked, “Sage, you’re home.” Leah tried to pick herself off the ground but sat back down immediately because her legs had gotten numb from the awkward position she was in. Sage had to hold her as she stood up to balance herself. Sage frowned lightly. “Why are you waiting for me, is there something you’d like to talk to me about?”
Leah looked at Sage and nodded yes.
“Come on in.”
“Sage.” Leah forced herself to look into Sage’s eyes even though it made her feel exposed and uneasy.
“There’s something that I’ve been wanting to tell you for a long time, but I was afraid.” Sage was getting impatient at that point. “Just spit it out, it’s like you’re constipated. Do you want to kneel here all night?” Leah’s head dropped as she hummed yes. “Three years ago, not long after you went missing. Uncle Braxton came looking for my dad, they got into a fight in the study room, something about an uneven distribution of benefits…”
It was pouring down that night, the wind struck the windows unforgivingly. Leah had not been able to have a good night’s sleep for the past few days. Her eyes were swollen, leg was wrapped in bandage that rendered her limp while she walked. It was Sage’s funeral the next day. Leah was still in denial, how could a person disappear just like that? Falling off a cliff without a trace or a body….
