"Did you ever care about your old man when he was alive?" someone shot back. "Did you ever help him, or even visit? What gives you the right to demand his money now?"

Monty choked on his words, his face turning a mottled red.

"Oh, so you ignore your dad while he’s living and only care about his will once he’s gone?"

"Yeah, was he only your father after he died?"

The crowd snickered and jeered at Monty, each barb sharper than the last.

Monty could only grit his teeth in silence.

"You’re all so focused on the money, huh?" Calliope turned to face Monty, voice steady. "Well, there’s not much left. Grandpa didn’t leave a fortune, and a big chunk of what he did leave, I donated—just like he asked me to."

Monty's jaw clenched in frustration.

"And those places you all think are his—those clubs, those companies? They’re mine now. Most of the rest? My brothers gave me those."

"And let’s not forget, some of it belongs to my husband," she added with a sly tilt of her head. "So what is it, Monty, you want my brothers’ money, my husband’s, too? Think you can just take whatever you like?"

"Is that so? Who wants my assets? Maybe I should just toss myself into the deal too?" A cold voice cut through the tension.
