“Hey, look, Mr. Myers, don’t take it the wrong way. Someone at the station must’ve misunderstood her, seriously! There’s no way your wife would do something like that!”
Judson trailed after Silas down the hallway, forcing a nervous laugh as he tried to explain. He was in over his head.
Calliope was already a handful on her own, but throw Silas into the mix, and it was basically an unbeatable nightmare team. He had no idea what kind of bad luck made his rookie officers pick a fight with the two people you definitely didn’t want to mess with.
Besides, why would Calliope scam the Jewell family? If she ever did want to run a con, she’d go for something much bigger, like a corporate CEO or a Wall Street millionaire, not the Jewells. Honestly, all their assets combined probably didn’t even add up to one percent of Calliope’s own net worth.
Judson was getting a headache just thinking about it. But he had no choice.
He gave Silas an apologetic smile, practically groveling. “Sorry, really, this is all a big misunderstanding. I totally believe your wife, one hundred percent! It’s gotta be the Jewells stirring up trouble. No way this has anything to do with your wife!”
He kept up the awkward smile as they entered the station.
Judson quickly called over one of the interns to fetch coffee for Silas, and then hurriedly said, “Mr. Myers, please, have some coffee and take a seat. I’ll handle the rest, you just relax here, alright?”
“My wife. Where is she?” Silas’s voice was icy.
“She’s, uh, inside…” Judson grabbed the nearest officer and whispered for an update.
“She’s in Interrogation Room 2. Karter’s questioning her,” the officer replied, looking nervous.
“Karter? He’s the genius who brought her in?”
Judson forced another thin smile at Silas.
