"Gideon, do you think my wife is someone you can just push around?"
Gideon, with a broken leg and a face that looked like he'd been through a meat grinder, glanced nervously at Silas.
Initially, he was against the plan, but the thought of Calliope begging for mercy had a twisted appeal. It clouded his judgment.
He had agreed to his mother and uncle's scheme. What he didn’t anticipate was his uncle’s sudden betrayal. And he certainly didn’t know that Calliope was some kind of leader of the Frostwolf squad or had been in the special forces.
Who was she, really? To him, she was just a woman he couldn't have.
When did she change? Was it because Uncle Silas knew how formidable she was that he liked her so much?
Gideon’s mind was a mess. Regret hit him like a ton of bricks.
But he knew Silas’s nature—if this got discovered, he was done for. He realized that he and his mother were in serious trouble.
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking straight!” Gideon pleaded with Silas. “I was wrong, and I won’t do it again!”
“Do you think you’ll even get a next time?” Silas chuckled softly, his presence dominating the room. “Do you really think I’ll give you another chance?”
“I-I... Uncle Silas, I was wrong, really wrong, please let me go! There’s no next time, absolutely none!”
“Don’t blame Gideon, he knew nothing. It was all my doing, I arranged everything!” Fleur shouted quickly. “Silas, this has nothing to do with Gideon! If you must blame someone, blame me!”
After all, Gideon was her son. Fleur was desperate to shield him, taking all the responsibility onto herself.
Gabriel’s face turned grim. He had no idea Silas was this terrifying, and he barely had time to explain.
“Mr. Myers, this is indeed our fault!”
“No, it’s not our fault, it’s theirs! I was wrong to trust them!” Gabriel said, his expression dark.
“Ask Ms. Jewell, I didn’t do anything to her! Once I realized who she was, I backed off immediately!”
Gabriel knew that Calliope, being a woman, might be more forgiving, but Silas was a different story. He was ruthless and decisive.
And it was clear to Gabriel that Silas cared deeply for Calliope. This wasn’t going to be resolved easily. They were in deep, deep trouble.
