Calliope spent some time freshening up in her room. As dinnertime drew near, she sent a message to the group chat, inviting everyone out for a meal together.
She stepped into the hallway just as Damien came out of the room next door.
She looked at him in surprise. “How did you know I was heading out for dinner?”
She hadn’t even messaged him yet, but there he was, as if he’d anticipated her perfectly.
Damien gave a sheepish grin and rubbed the back of his head. “It was about the right time, so I thought I’d check. You don’t think I was spying on you, do you?”
“Of course not. I just figured I’d pop out every few minutes. I didn’t want to disturb you, so I didn’t call.”
“You really don’t need to worry. I’ll always let you know when I’m going out.”
She flashed him a slightly exasperated smile.
Damien’s grin widened. “Well, then, I’d appreciate that.”
“Honestly, you’re the one who has to put up with being dragged around after me,” she said with a laugh.
Damien quickly waved her off. “Don’t say that! This is my job. Your safety comes first—and Mr. Myers pays me for a reason.”
Calliope nodded and headed out, Damien faithfully following behind.
