A Pigeon Pair: Sweetheart, Let's Get Married novel Chapter 421

Lying in Maverick's arms, Everly cried out without warning.

Maverick hugged her and knew that she must feel grieved. He gently patted her back and kissed her on the top of her head.

The joy of regaining what was thought to be lost turned into tears.

Although Maverick still had many doubts, at that moment, nothing was as important as Everly.

Tears flowed down Everly's cheeks to Maverick's chest. Maverick felt painful to think of this, not to mention how much pain Everly would experience. She may be happy, but mostly she must be guilty. When she talked just now, she was obviously in a low mood.

Maverick remembered the day when Everly did not go home and ran to the river for a walk. He was afraid that she might have detected something wrong at that time.

The two of them probably knew about this at a similar time and were waiting for an opportunity to talk about it.

Everly had probably gone through a lot of struggles before telling it out.

Thinking of this, Maverick hugged the woman in his arms and wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. "Everly, don't cry. This is a good thing. Although Candy is not with you, she is by my side. All these years, she is fine. You don't need to feel guilty. It is not your fault. If someone has to take responsibility for this, it should be me."

Maverick sighed.

This was life. It was filled with sadness and happiness. But fortunately, everything still went the way he hoped for.

Sobbing, Everly could not stop herself and responded in a heavy nasal voice, "I know, I just thought that if... If..."

She could not finish the whole sentence. Maverick held her cheek and kissed the corner of her eyes, feeling so sorry for her. "There is no if. Let's not think about what happened. Let's think about the present and our future."

The kiss of a lover seemed to have healing power.

Being embarrassed, Everly was embarrassed to turn her face away. She could not control her tears, especially when Maverick coaxed her in such a gentle and Beth voice. She felt like being allowed to let out her emotions freely.

This was the first time that Maverick had been so patient with someone. And Everly was the only one who could make him be like this. When she calmed down, her eyes were red like a rabbit.

"How did you find out?" Maverick asked.

Everly rubbed her eyes. "You might not believe it. When I was chatting with Beth, what she said suddenly reminded me. At first, I thought it was impossible. But... I was fooled by myself."

She and even Maverick did not think of this. No one did.

Amos probably knew well about this weakness of men and had been watching them being at loss in secret.

Maverick did not want to bring up the people and the things that made them unhappy tonight.

Tonight, he just wanted to focus on Everly.

Everly leaned into Maverick's arms and blinked her wet eyelashes. "I was just thinking of trying it. Maverick, I was once very afraid of facing Candy. I felt that I was not a good mother. I would let her down."

She had stronger feelings for the child than Maverick because she carried the baby for ten months. But now she knew nothing of Candy and did not even recognize Candy when they met. Apologies could not fully represent how she felt.

Now Everly was with Maverick alone. She did not know how to talk about this with Candy.

Maverick could relate to this as he knew that his Everly was always a kind woman and a good mother.

"You don't have to blame yourself. Candy always likes you. To her, this is her dream coming true. She wants you to be her mother instead of those women she doesn't know about. And you are her mother."

She felt like there was an invisible gap between them. Although she was still in his arms, she still felt uneasy. She only hoped that she felt something was wrong.

She had a hunch that Maverick had a darker and more complicated past than she imagined. Maybe she only thought this way because Zane had said this to her.

It must be what Zane said that she had this preconceived idea.

Maverick came back to his senses and held Everly's hand before kissing her palm gently. "Baby, I know what to do. I am just tired of such a life. Don't worry, I will give you a peaceful life where no one will disturb you."

Everly nodded. This was a normal promise, but she was moved. She believed that Maverick could do it as long as he said it.

She believed him.

"What should we do about Candy?" Everly was not sure when to tell Candy and how to say it.

Maverick knew what Everly was worried about. He had always thought of her as his priority. "We don't need to rush."

Everly raised her head to look at him, her eyes confused.

"They think that we still don't know about this. Then let's just let it be. I want to know what their final goal is and what other stupid things they will do." Maverick stroked Everly's smooth back. "I'm sure, Amos had sold this secret to many people. Soon he could tell Zane."

Everly's expression sank. She thought for a moment and said seriously, "You're right."

Candy was still young. She might not understand it even if they explained it to her. Now the most important thing was that they knew about this. It was hard to tell who would control the following situation.

Maverick still had one more thing to discuss with Everly. It was about the secret of Candy. But when he looked down and saw the tiredness on Everly's face, he pretended to yawn and said, "It's getting late. Let's rest."
