Maverick remembered that after Kailey told him the shocking news in the ward, he was too shocked to say anything. He couldn't find a suitable word to describe his complicated feelings. Everly was Candy's mother. It turned out that she had given birth to two children at that time. God gave him a surprise!
Maverick didn't show his joy. He seldom showed his emotions. Even in front of Kailey, he was used to controlling himself, because he didn't want her to worry about him.
They were both smart people, especially Maverick. They had soon found something. Kailey must have known the secret from the very beginning.
Kailey had just woken up from her coma. Maverick couldn't say anything to blame Kailey, but he was disappointed. Her eyes dimmed. Lowering his eyes, he loosened her grip on Kailey.
Kailey was sad. She looked at Maverick. His expressionless face was more depressing and made her more guilty than his angry eyes. She would rather he questioned her.
But Maverick didn't. He just kept a distance from her and stood with his hands down. His handsome features were covered with sternness, rejecting her.
Kailey didn't dare to look at him again and avoided eye contact.
Maverick didn't say anything else. He stood there quietly for a while, and then said in a calm voice, "Have a good rest first. I'll come to see you later."
He could guess the reason.
Kailey had gone through a lot of dangerous situations. Perhaps it was not until she faced death that she finally understood life.
However, Maverick was not in the mood to comfort her at the moment. The ecstasy of meeting her faded away. The air in the room seemed to freeze and was unable to flow.
He could feel anger. He loved his parents, but he wouldn't forgive them unconditionally for whatever they did.
"I'm sorry." Kailey's voice came from behind. Maverick didn't turn around. He just stood there for a while and then strode out of the place.
After a night, when Maverick came to his senses, it was already morning.
He saw his eyes in the mirror, which were red, but not tired. The sunlight shone into his eyes, which were astonishingly bright.
When Maverick was about to go back to wash his face and brush his teeth, his phone suddenly rang. It was an unknown number calling him in the early morning. He answered the phone without hesitation. A low and charming female voice came from the other end of the phone. She asked him in fluent English, "Is that Mr. Maverick?"
"Who are you?"
"Mr. Maverick, you forgot me so soon. I saved you before."
Sofia thought Maverick wouldn't forget her. "Do you remember my name?"
Maverick ignored her roundabout manner and said, "There is no room for negotiation between us."
It was they who did the kidnap first. He sent them away and settled all the problems.
Maverick was not a good man, especially when it came to this kind of thing.
Maverick knew that Sofia had feelings for him, so he didn't want to say anything more. He didn't want to waste his time on irrelevant people. On the other side, Sofia changed the topic. "How about we make a deal?"
Maverick was a businessman, and Sofia's suggestion was particularly for him. If it was in the past, Maverick might think about it, but now he was not in the mood to care about someone else.
"I'm not interested in making a deal with you."
He was full of arrogance.
He said he was not interested, but actually, he looked down on it.
Maverick hung up the phone and turned it off.
It was very quiet at home now.
In Candy's room, Maverick saw the mother and daughter sleeping side by side. They looked like each other a lot though he hadn't felt so in the past.
Warm feelings welled up in Maverick's heart. He was grateful to Everly, who was his lucky star.
God was good to him.
When Maverick realized that he had overslept, Everly had already arrived at the amusement park. She had a good time with Beth and the kids.
Beth liked to stay at home. If it hadn't been for Everly's repeated invitation and the fact that she was afraid of making mistakes with her two children, she wouldn't have gone out. When she came out, she found that the amusement park was quite interesting.
Everly took the child to the merry-go-round because Edmond stressed that he was a big child and he would sit alone, while Everly and Candy sat in the pumpkin carriage of Cinderella, following the merry-go-round.
"Look here."
The sound of the camera rang. When Beth was about to take another picture, a phone call came.
Everly sat in the car, holding Candy's soft body in her arms. Suddenly, she had a strong feeling that the result of the paternity test came out.
Although she didn't show it on her face, her heart beat faster and faster. She swallowed hard, and everything around her became dreamy. The noise around her was not in her world, but a fake background. After a circle, she went back to the beginning. Beth looked at her.
The world was still.
With a relieved smile, Beth made an "OK" gesture.
At that moment, everything around Everly became lively again.
Everly's heart skipped a beat.
It was so absurd, ridiculous, and happy.
The merry-go-round's background music overtook Everly's first uncontrollable cry. Sadness and joy overwhelmed her from the bottom of her heart. She was out of control.
Fate was unpredictable. Looking at Everly who was holding Candy in the carriage, Beth felt that her eyes were a little wet.
'Well, I suddenly miss Lawrence,' Beth thought.
