After Everly received the flowers, Jayden replied to Maverick that the flowers were delivered.
Behind the wide desk, Maverick was as expressionless as he had been in the morning after hearing this. When Jayden was about to go out, Maverick stopped him.
"Did Everly say anything?"
Maverick's voice was low, cold, despondent, and subtly expectant.
One was bound to meet a woman who was very attractive to him.
But Jayden did not quite understand. Because it didn't happen to everyone. Jayden was happy for Everly's good luck and also distressed that there was no turning back for her. However, Maverick wouldn't turn into somebody else.
Jayden didn't deliver flowers personally. But he was meticulous and asked the courier if the flowers were sent. So Jayden could answer Maverick's question.
"At first, Miss Everly thought that flowers were sent to the wrong place. After confirming that the flowers were for her, she accepted them."
It was as Maverick expected that she accepted the flowers, which showed that she was not that angry.
Maverick was relieved and nodded.
Seeing that Maverick was not as gloomy as before, Jayden breathed a sigh of relief in his heart.
At the beginning of the afternoon, the PR manager knocked on the door of Maverick's office, because the company's image was affected by the news on the Internet, and they could no longer turn a blind eye to it.
In fact, the PR manager agreed with the online version. Zane and Maverick tried every means to jockey for power in the Lamont Group. Everyone said that Maverick was vicious, unscrupulous, and associated with underworld gangs. He was likely to do such a shameful thing.
It was indeed shameful. The PR manager was dismissive of the way Maverick smeared Zane and thought that it didn't work well.
The Lamont Group's image was also tarnished by this.
A good reputation was important to large companies, and the PR manager felt the same way. However, he didn't dare to say anything against it because he worked for his new leader, Maverick, who was unscrupulous.
"Have you done what needs to be done?" Maverick, as the PR manager had expected, was indifferent. When Maverick raised his eyes at the manager, the manager's lips moved, but he was too scared to speak.
Maverick had his own considerations. The more he responded, the more he was reviled by the creeps. That the scandal would continue to go viral online was not Maverick's primary concern. He just did not want the people behind it to laugh at him.
The grudge and fear on the PR manager's face as he left did not elude Maverick. No one was qualified to tell Maverick how to handle this. Maverick was in a different position and looked at things from a different perspective, so he naturally dealt with the problem in a different way.
However, Maverick did not like to explain to others. His subordinates had to comprehend it themselves. If they failed to do this, they would be fired.
Maverick was in a bad mood and was not going to pay any attention to the online comments, even waiting for them to spread. Didn't they say Maverick was behind it? They underestimated Maverick, who actually didn't care about this bullshit.
After seeing death and worse, Maverick felt there was no point in even living. Of course, he didn't care about a few people calling his name on the Internet.
There were piles of cigarette butts in the ashtray at the desk. Maverick snuffed out the butts, and a trail of smoke came from the ashtray.
After an afternoon's work, Maverick was dying of smoke.
Maverick grabbed the suit and left the office.
The car stopped at the gate. Maverick walked over with a sullen face.
"Maverick."
When the soft female voice sounded, Maverick thought for a moment that it was Everly's. Perhaps he was holding out a little hope that Everly would be here.
Maverick, tall and straight in build, stopped and turned around, only to see Elenore standing by a car.
Elenore distinctly felt that Maverick turned around as if expecting a surprise, but when he saw her, he grew cold.
"I have something to tell you." Elenore trotted forward and blocked Maverick's way with one hand on the car door.
"There's nothing for us to talk about." Maverick didn't have anything to say to Elenore and knew clearly that their relationship was benefit-based. Maverick wasn't disappointed, and even thought it was good.
Maverick was surprised at Elenore's return, but he had no interest in asking.
"Do you have any idea how scheming the woman around you is?" Elenore lowered her voice and gritted her teeth.
"You mean yourself?" Maverick raised his eyebrows and his calm voice was full of sarcasm.
"I mean Everly," Elenore said and her face changed.
