Zane was not that kind of person to just protect the Lamont Group as he said.
Zane's ambitions had finally been exposed.
He was in a wheelchair, but his neck was raised slightly to look at Maverick. His eyes were no longer filled with pent-up emotions and desires.
There was a fire in his eyes.
It could be seen in Zane's face that he's got it figured out.
Maverick suddenly felt like he saw the two brothers of the Kamo family he met many years ago.
One could do anything for the sake of benefits.
"There is something I have always wanted to tell you." Maverick's voice lowered a bit. "You've been blaming Tracy's death on me so that you will feel better. But you know very well that love can't be forced. You always think it was me that caused you to lose so much. Ask yourself, have I really done you wrong?"
Zane sneered. "So now you want to touch me with affection?"
"You think we have no affection. What makes you think I think there's something so fake between us?"
"Are you trying to reason with me?"
"I just hope that you can accept the reality."
"I think the reality for you now is that if I ask you to kneel, you're going to kneel, right?"
Maverick's face darkened, but Zane laughed alone. "But didn't grandpa say so? We are always family. People respect me, but you're older than me, you're my brother, and I'm not really going to ask you to kneel."
Maverick already understood what Zane meant.
Zane was humiliating him.
Because Maverick got Edmond, Zane wouldn't get too tough with him. Zane said he was not asking Maverick to kneel, but his face made it clear that he wanted Maverick to kneel right here.
Maverick was a proud man. In his life, even in the most difficult times, he never humbled anyone. In Italy, Maverick suffered a lot from his unyielding attitude when he first joined the Kamo family.
But now...
Maverick thought more about Everly.
Dignity was crucial to Maverick.
But in this world, nothing mattered more than Everly to him.
He knew that if anything happened to Edmond, Everly would not be able to handle it, and he had repeatedly assured Everly that their son would be fine.
Maverick's hands clenched into fists.
Maverick was struggling, not because he didn't think it was worth it, but because the instinct to never bow made him only move his legs slightly.
However, just as he was about to kneel, another voice came from behind him.
"What are you guys doing at the door?"
Levi's hypocritical face was the last thing that Maverick wanted to see.
Maverick came here today to negotiate, but right at the door, they didn't get off to a good start, so Maverick now asked directly, "tell me what you want. Edmond is only five years old. You fight with me, by all means, but not my woman and child."
Zane sneered, "If it wasn't for you, do you think my child would have been this age?"
Maverick retorted, "You can't blame someone because you can't protect your family. It's just a coward."
"Is that so? So what you endured was a condemnation of what the Lamont family did?"
Maverick's face darkened. "Don't present yourself as a good man. You think I'm up to no good, and I think you're just as cunning. We're all for the end. Say your terms."
Zane smiled. "Okay, as you like it. Let's get it straight. You give me everything in Italy, and I'll give you your son in one piece."
Sure enough, everything Zane did was for the fortune in Italy.
Maverick was not surprised.
Now that Zane had made his offer, Maverick wouldn't be hiding anything. "I can give you what you want, but you have to let me see my son first."
"Everyone knows what kind of person you are. If I let you see that boy, I'm afraid I'll get nothing out of it."
"You've done so much for preparation, and talking to me about this is just a distraction."
Maverick looked at Zane and said, "You must have known Byron was up to no good. You signed the deal because, as you already knew, it would be harder to stop me if you didn't work with Byron. You used the deal to make me think you were completely duped, and let me take Everly with me so that you could arrange for Edmond and deal with Sarah's matter."
