"Fuck, so you're planning to use me as a shield?" Jared snapped.
"Obviously." One corner of Skylar's mouth lifted. "If you were useless, why would I tell you about it? Oblivion Abyss could contain law-resonance fragments, insights into the laws, maybe even surviving inheritances or artifacts.
"Find one or two things worth keeping, and we're set. We either use them ourselves or sell them through the Void Chamber of Commerce for crystals."
Skylar's gaze sharpened with challenge.
"So tell me—are you willing to go or not? And I'll warn you now, this Emperorfall Expanse is far more dangerous than the one in the Nineteenth Firmament. That place had already been entered by others, so most of its power had faded. This one is different. No cultivator has ever breached it."
Jared looked up at him, a familiar challenge entering his smile.
"You're really asking me if I'll chicken out? Have I ever backed off in front of you? You should know me better than that."
A spark finally appeared in Skylar's cold eyes.
"Then it's settled. We rest for three days and leave after that. Bring that bodyguard of yours."
"Master Veridian?"
Jared glanced at Master Veridian, who stood a short distance away digging at one ear.
"He can come if he wants. If not, he can stay here and watch the kid. He won't be much use inside a place like that anyway. At least he can babysit."
"Whose bones are old?"
Master Veridian's hearing was annoyingly sharp. He spun around and glared at Jared.
"I'm at the peak of Level Eight Golden Immortal! I'm so many levels above you that I've lost count, and you think I won't be useful? Keep talking and I'll slap you straight into the ground!"
"Yeah, yeah, we know you're strong." Jared waved him off with a grin. "Fine, everyone goes. But Master Veridian, don't slow us down once we're inside."
"Slow you down?"
Master Veridian puffed out his chest. "I crossed more secret realms and death traps in the Lower Realm than you can count. How old are you, kid? Don't lecture me about dangerous places."
"Fine. You're incredible." Jared laughed and waved a hand.
Gwendolyn had remained silent beside them.
For a moment, her gaze rested on Josephine before she looked away again.
She could feel Josephine studying her in return, measuring her with quiet curiosity.
It was the sort of thing a woman noticed instinctively. Even with her memories gone, something in Josephine's body seemed to be telling her that Gwendolyn mattered.
Josephine was indeed watching Gwendolyn.
Why did her eyes keep returning to Gwendolyn? Josephine could not explain it. Whenever the woman was near, something seemed lodged in her throat—impossible to voice, impossible to force down.
Gwendolyn stood beside Jared with effortless familiarity. They were obviously close.
That realization stirred a faint, inexplicable bitterness deep inside Josephine.
She suppressed it almost immediately.

Dropping of 4 new chapters a day is too small, please increase it to 10. Thanks...
Josephine's first time seeing Jared kill isn't with Leyton but with Falcon. Pay attention to your work....
You need to correct yourself, dear author. Josephine was in the City of Herbs when she was a kid, so why is the city's smell surprising to her?...
