"All right, enough messing around." Jared waved a hand. "We're going to the Twentieth Firmament."
Master Veridian's teasing expression vanished, and a sharp glint crossed his eyes. "The Twentieth Firmament? Just the four of us? The Celestial High Temple over there is no pushover."
"More people won't necessarily help."
Jared remained calm. "We'll scout the situation first. Besides, the celestials aren't the only faction in the Twentieth Firmament. We can use the conflicts between them and the other powers to our advantage."
Master Veridian thought it over, then nodded. "Fair enough. Let's go."
He turned and gave the young acolyte a kick in the rear. "Quit eating! We're moving!"
The boy hurriedly stuffed the last bite of spirit fruit into his mouth. His cheeks puffed up like a squirrel's as he mumbled a reply and scampered after them.
The four of them—Jared, Gwendolyn, Master Veridian, and the young acolyte—gathered together.
Jared summoned the Demon-Quelling Tower and poured chaotic force into it. Silver light spread from the tower and enveloped all four of them.
Space twisted. The scenery blurred. A moment later, they vanished from the ice plain.
The Demon-Quelling Tower could travel through space. Jared intended to use it to cross the void into the Twentieth Firmament, minimizing the strain on everyone.
...
The Twentieth Firmament.
When the four emerged from the spatial passage, they found themselves on a hillside.
Lush grass carpeted the ground beneath their feet. Crystal-clear dew clung to every blade, glittering like diamonds beneath the pale golden sunlight.
Mountain ranges rolled across the distance, their peaks piercing the clouds. Eternal snow capped the summits, reflecting dazzling white light beneath the sun.
The air was fresh and damp, carrying the scent of grass, trees, and soil. Every breath brought dense spiritual energy surging into their bodies.
"So this is the Twentieth Firmament?"
The young acolyte took a deep breath, wonder flashing in his cloudy eyes. "The spiritual energy here is incredible! It's more than a whole tier richer than in the Nineteenth Firmament. Cultivating here would be at least three times faster!"
"That's right."
Jared nodded, his purple eyes sweeping over the surroundings. "The natural laws here are more complete too. That makes it much easier to comprehend the power of the laws."
The young acolyte crouched down and brushed his fingers over the grass, then looked toward the distant mountains, curiosity filling his small face. "Master, this place is prettier than anywhere we've ever stayed."
Master Veridian nodded. For once, he did not argue. Instead, he sighed wistfully. "The Twentieth Firmament... I came here once a long time ago. Then I got myself tangled up with the Celestial Stairway and ended up wandering around the Lower Realm. It's been ages since I've been back."
Jared said nothing. His spirit sense had already spread outward, reaching more than a hundred miles in every direction.
