A Life Beyond Limits novel Chapter 173

Jack had no doubt that Phoebe would reject him. He was already starting to think about whether he needed to apologize to her. However, things took a surprising twist.

After Jack gave the order, he saw Joshua stagger to the stage, emboldened by the alcohol. Then, he slurred, "Did you hear that? Big Jack wants you to sing… sing 'My Heart Remains' before… before you can go."

The entire room was in an uproar as soon as the words were out of his mouth. Joshua was being incredibly bold. It was one thing to be arrogant behind the scenes—they didn't expect him to act like that to Phoebe's face!

No matter how well Phoebe and Jack got along, there was no way she would perform.

Some of the male patrons even slowly stood up and picked up their chairs, ready to give Joshua a beating once Phoebe gave the order.

How dare he insult the woman of their dreams like that? He had a death wish!

Phoebe paled. Then, she frowned and looked at Joshua coldly before fixing her gaze on Jack.

How could he possibly have the nerve to meet her gaze? He was one step away from burying his face in his pants.

Everyone expected Phoebe to angrily reject Joshua before having the guards throw him out, but things took a surprising twist—she hesitated briefly before biting her lip and turning back to the piano. She started tuning it!

Now, her admirers were dumbfounded.

"W-What's going on?"

Isaac almost jumped in shock. "Is there something going on between you and my goddess, Jack? You'd better fess up!"

Samuel nodded vigorously. "Exactly! You can't deny it this time! We won't believe you!"

Jack cried, "I swear there's nothing! I'll get struck by lightning if I'm lying. Think about it—would I still be single if there was anything between us?"

Joshua was inclined to believe he was telling the truth when he heard that. After all, the gap between Phoebe and Jack was too wide. There didn't seem to be anything that could connect them.

However, as the strains of a piano melody started, it was clear that Phoebe was playing for Jack. As for the reason she'd agreed—and she was playing a song that carried a hint of amorosity, too—the only explanation was the six years they'd spent together in middle school. Right?
