Luca scowled, clearly annoyed. "An amateur? Then who do you think you are? Have you ever held a concert for an audience of 100 thousand? Have you ever experienced the glory of having that many fans come just for you? Are you even worthy?"
"Yeah, right! Cut the sarcasm. No matter how much you hype him up, it doesn't change the fact that he's trash. How many fans here do you think actually like him, huh?" Mateo shot back, oozing confidence.
But he had clearly overestimated his own appeal—and underestimated Soul's influence, especially after Soul's latest hit, "Youth", had catapulted him to new heights of fame. At this point, Mateo couldn't even begin to compete with Jack's impact.
As soon as Mateo insulted Jack, Soul's die-hard fans wouldn't stand for it. Even some who had backed him and criticized Jack just moments earlier turned against him.
"Don't you dare insult Soul! Who do you think you are?"
"Anyone who dares insult Soul will have to deal with me!"
"Look at yourself—who do you think you are? What gives you the right to talk about Soul like that?"
Faced with the backlash, the leader of Mateo's fan club muttered under her breath, "Well… he's just an amateur singer, isn't he?"
She shouldn't have said it. The moment the words came out, the place blew up.
Soul's fans erupted in outrage.
"What? An amateur? How dare you say that? What makes Mateo so special compared to Soul? Do you even know how massive Soul's concerts were back in the day?
"The streets were empty because everyone was there! Have you ever seen 100 thousand fans show up for a concert? Tickets were scalped from 500 to 5,000 and still sold out—ever heard of that?"
