Neil thought about it and said, "He's a close friend of ours, but I can't seem to figure out what could possibly be so important that my father needs to talk to him about."
Although Jack was capable, tough, daring, and skilled, Neil couldn't figure out what kind of connection he might have with Jason. Among all of them, only Mona had a vague idea why.
In the study, Jack and Jason sat across from each other.
Charlotte courteously poured Jack a cup of coffee and Jason a cup of tea. Then, she exited the study.
"I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, Jack. I had a meeting earlier. Some problems came up in the Newlight District, and I had to take full responsibility. Recently, I've been so knee-deep in work that I can't even get a good night's sleep," Jason said as he sipped his tea.
A trace of sorrow lingered between his brows.
Jack was unsure what Jason was struggling with recently, but Jason's willingness to share some of his issues with him showed that Jason trusted him.
Though it wasn't a heart-to-heart talk, there was a clear intent to draw him in.
Jack diverted the topic and said, "I was reading 'The Financial War' in the study. You have a comfortable place here, Mr. Grant. I was so engrossed that I was unwilling to leave."
"Jack, I know your relationship with Char and Neil, but you don't have to call me Mr. Grant. Call me Jason! I may be much older than you, but your success is enough for me to call you my peer," Jason said.
Calling him "Jason" felt more familiar, but Jack couldn't help feeling awkward. He thought calling him that when they were alone was fine, but saying it in front of Neil and Charlotte seemed too out of place.
