After exchanging a few more words with George, he left the onboarding area with Joanne, Orion, and Yelena.
Yelena and Orion bid farewell to Jack. She was particularly neutral throughout their journey back.
However, after Jack left with his sister, Orion's calm expression started to turn uneasy.
He bumped into a few students and couldn't help but say, while wiping his tears off, "You might not believe this, but I just ran into a total legend. He is not only a senior and the top scholar in the state, but also the CEO of a company worth hundreds of billions."
Even as he recalled the encounter, Orion still felt a lingering sense of awe.
Recalling all the nonsense he tried to brag about in front of Jack, he couldn't help but cringe. If Jack hadn't been so gracious and refrained from mocking him, it would have been utterly humiliating for him.
At the thought of this, Orion took his phone and looked at the saved contact. He had received this number from Joanne earlier, thinking he would just flirt with some beautiful young lady. However, when he thought about how Jack was Joanne's older brother, he eventually sighed and resolutely deleted Joanne's number.
Orion was painfully self-aware. He knew the gap between him and Joanne was far too wide. It didn't matter if it were looks, intellect, or family background; it was like comparing the sky to the earth. So, he deleted her contact, cutting off unrealistic hopes before they could take root.
…
Jack brought Joanne out for lunch. Then, in the afternoon, he drove her to the villa by the river.
Previously, Jack bought two villas when he purchased the accommodation building for his employees. One was reserved for him, while the other was for his parents and sister, with three of their names written on the house deed.
Now, the villa renovations have been completed, and they could move in anytime.
The moment Joanne stepped into the villa, her eyes wandered everywhere.
She looked at every single detail in the room, fascinated by everything around her.
All her life, Joanne stayed in a quaint home in the suburbs. She had never seen such a luxurious villa before, especially that pool with its rippling, sapphire-blue water shimmering under the lights. It looked like something out of a dream, a place she never imagined she would see in real life.
Joanne couldn't help but nod at Jack's question. "Yes, I do. It's beautiful. But, Jack, why did you bring me here?"
Although she knew her brother was earning well, she had never seen the cash with her own eyes. To Joanne, it was nothing more than mere numbers. She never thought her brother would spend so much money to buy this villa.
