Paisley’s tone softened as she turned to Ramona and said, “Don’t act on impulse. Aireanna is seriously ill. Luna Adelaide specifically instructed that Aireanna receive treatment, even amidst her busy schedule. You can refuse Adelaide’s kindness, but don’t let your anger delay Aireanna’s care.”

Galvin, noticing Ramona’s red eyes, asked, “What happened? Unwilling to accept treatment?”

Ramona quickly wiped her tears and said, “Dr. Galvin, please follow me.”

“Alright, you two go ahead. I won’t come along,” Paisley said, her pride surfacing as she didn’t want further arguments.

She knew her words could be harsh and didn’t want to upset them further.

Ramona, however, tugged gently at her sleeve and whispered, “Paisley, I was wrong just now. I apologize. I’m just… having trouble accepting all of this.”

Tears streamed down her face again, her eyes filled with heartbreak and confusion.

She said, “In just a few days, I’ve learned my father betrayed me, the Barkers won’t take us in, and even my sister wants to harm our mother. I don’t understand–why has everything turned out like this? They’re my closest family. Why are they doing this to me?”

The wind howled, nearly drowning out her sobs, leaving only her red nose as a visible sign of her crying.

At this moment, Paisley realized she had been too harsh.

Ramona, raised in such an environment, had no one truly reliable around her.

Not even Dorothy, who was sent by Madison.

Yet, Ramona managed to keep her own opinions and stayed uncorrupted, which was quite an achievement.

Paisley thought that if she were in Ramona’s shoes, she might not have been able to survive

She avoided directly answering Ramona’s question.

Ramona gazed hopefully at Galvin, seeking a definitive answer.

However, Galvin remained focused on her task and took out a bottle of medicine from her medical kit, placing it on the table. “If the coughing is severe, take one pill. It will provide temporary relief. But this is only for alleviating the symptoms; you must still take the medicine listed on the prescription twice daily,” she instructed.

Ramona recognized the emblem on the medical kit, identifying Galvin as a physician from Digby Medical Center.

She knew the medications from there were not cheap.

Pulling Paisley aside, Ramona pleaded, “You mentioned you could lend me money. Could you please give me some now? I’ll repay you, I promise.”

Paisley took out some money and handed it to her, saying, “Take this. When you’re ready to start your business, come back for the rest.”

“No, this is too much. I just need a food cart on the street. A few thousand dollars would suffice,” Ramona said hastily.

“Take it anyway. If you don’t use it all, you can return it later. Besides, Aireanna will need money for her treatment and medication,” Paisley insisted.
