A Caged Songbird's Escape: Into the Arms of a Predator novel Chapter 479

But for her legs to show such massive improvement in such a short amount of time was completely beyond her expectations.

Once the needles were removed, she looked at the gentle young woman beside her and spoke with profound tenderness. "I had the kitchen prepare a special nourishing stew for you. Have some before you go."

If it were any other time, Elissa would have agreed without a second thought.

But now, thinking of Marcia's sudden presence in the house, she shook her head. "Thank you, Suzanne, but I'll pass today. My mentors are staying in the apartment right across from mine for a few days."

"I should head back early and have dinner with them."

This was indeed what she had planned all along.

Understanding her reservations, Suzanne gently patted her hand. "In a few days, I'll have someone take her and Maya back to Cresthaven."

She hadn't had any warning that the two of them were coming to Vistapeak City today.

Elissa smiled but didn't say anything.

Downstairs, Marcia caught the rich scent of the stew wafting from the kitchen. Rubbing her stomach, she walked in, eyed the simmering pot, and demanded flatly, "What's cooking? Get me a bowl."

The maid looked conflicted. "Ms. Vera, this is..."

No one at Zephyr Manor had anticipated her sudden arrival. Suzanne didn't care for this type of stew, so she had specifically instructed the kitchen to prepare a single portion just for Elissa.

It was highly beneficial for a pregnancy.

If she gave this portion to Marcia, there wouldn't be any left for Elissa when she came down.

The maids weren't stupid. They knew how much Suzanne valued Elissa. After a brief hesitation, the maid replied carefully, "This stew is meant to nourish a pregnancy. There's some premium sweet broth left in the fridge from lunch. I can heat up a bowl of that for you instead."

The staff here weren't privy to all the drama at the main Wilkinson Manor.

Naturally, they didn't know Marcia was pregnant either.

The maid simply thought this excuse would make Marcia drop the subject.

Unexpectedly, Marcia was deeply offended. "Sweet broth from lunch? What do you mean? You want me to eat leftovers?"

"And nourish a pregnancy? Who in this house needs to nourish a pregnancy?"

Marcia stared at the maid suspiciously. "Don't tell me it's my mom?"

A disabled woman in her fifties, pregnant??

The maid quickly waved her hands. "Of course not..."

Marcia felt like she was going to cough up blood from pure rage.

Frank already refused to acknowledge the baby in her own belly. Even with the backing of the Wilkinson family, forcing him to marry her was proving to be an uphill battle.

If Elissa was carrying Frank's child, any idiot could guess who Frank would choose to marry!

No.

Absolutely not!!

When they came downstairs, Suzanne intended to walk Elissa out to the yard. Just as they passed through the living room, Marcia hurried after them.

"Elissa, the kitchen made some stew for you. Won't you have some before you leave?"

Her tone was incredibly earnest and eager.

She looked exactly like someone who had genuinely decided to turn over a new leaf.

Elissa paused and looked back at her, trying to figure out what game she was playing now.

Marcia took the ceramic bowl from the maid and held it out to her. "Have some. My mom specifically asked the kitchen to make it for you."
