The thought made her hate Elissa with every fiber of her being. Why was this bitch always so lucky? First Rowan, then Frank, and now the entire Wilkinson family was rallying behind her.
If only Elissa had died in that crash, being arrested now would have been worth it. But what was this? The bitch was perfectly fine, while she was the one taking the fall.
Seeing her hesitate, the officer’s brow furrowed. "There are a lot of people watching. It would be much less dignified if we had to take you away by force." Since she was technically an Atwater, no one wanted an ugly scene.
When Maya still didn’t appear, Marcia abandoned all hope. "I… I’ll go with you," she said, her voice trembling.
"Wait a moment."
Just as she spoke, Maya emerged from the crowd and whispered something in Suzanne’s ear.
Suzanne’s hand, resting on the arm of her wheelchair, trembled violently. She stared at Marcia, then back at Maya, her face a mask of disbelief. "What did you say?"
Elissa sensed something was wrong. Maya glanced at her, then said to Suzanne, "Mom, this is a serious matter. Perhaps we should ask any non-family members to step aside? Or we could all go to the family study to discuss this."
Not far from the restroom was the Wilkinsons’ private study.
Suzanne’s face was pale, but she made her decision with a semblance of calm. "To the study." She then instructed a maid to fetch Tristan, her father-in-law, and her mother-in-law.
Soon, the Wilkinsons began filing into the study. Suzanne was the last to enter. She turned to Elissa, who was still standing there, and took her hand. "Don’t worry. No matter what, I will get you justice for what happened."
But deep down, what Maya had just told her felt more like a cruel joke. She couldn’t believe it.
Elissa didn’t know what was happening, but she understood it was a private family matter. She nodded. "Okay, I’ll wait out here. Call me if you need anything." Suzanne looked unwell, and she was worried.
