Chapter 115
Brian followed the path of the torn flyer toward the bulletin board. Then, he saw a piece of it still clinging there.
At this, Brian’s expression grew grim.
“B–Brian. This must be a misunderstanding.” Evelyn grew nervous, trying to explain.
Brian held the flyer up to Evelyn’s face. “You knew about this, didn’t you?”
He wasn’t a fool. From the way Evelyn had just defended Maddie and Lila, he could tell she’d been aware.
Faced with his question, Evelyn bit her lip.
Brian’s suspicions solidified. “Eve, you’ve really let me down.”
With that, Brian turned away with the flyer in hand and walked off.
“Brian!”
Evelyn tried to follow, but Emily blocked her. “Ms. Granger please stay here.”
Then, Emily hurried after Brian.
Downstairs by the classroom building, Emily asked, “Mr. Lodge, should we look for Ms. Torrey?”
Glancing at the flyer in his hand, Brian’s face grew even darker. “No need!”
She’d clearly been wronged but didn’t want to tell him. She hadn’t even explained a single thing just now. Did Ariana really not trust him at all?
“Let’s go.”
“Go?” Emily looked momentarily startled. If they left now, wouldn’t this misunderstanding just keep growing?
“She wants to tough it out on her own. Let her, then,”
With that, Brian strode away.
Meanwhile, Ariana was wiping Selena’s cheek. “Does it hurt?”
“It hurts!” Selena complained. “Emily sure doesn’t hold back! She always seemed so decent, but when it comes down to it, she doesn’t hesitate to hit hard.”
“You slapped Evelyn first. Everyone in Gleaston knows Evelyn is the one Brian cares about most. They grew up together, and she and Brian…” Ariana broke off, shaking her head.
“I did it for you! Brian was way out of line! He didn’t even ask about the facts before taking Evelyn’s side! It makes my blood boil!”
Then, Selena grumbled, “Why didn’t you tell him it was Lila and Maddie who started it?”
“It wouldn’t have mattered. Why bother?” Ariana’s tone was calm. “Besides, the more Brian hates me, the farther I can stay away. I don’t want to be his wife.”
“That’s true.”
While the campus medic tended to Selena’s face, Ariana stepped outside and took out her phone. She quickly dialed Miranda.
“Yes, Ms. Torrey?”
